Fern Canyon
One of my top picks from my list of Humboldt county hikes. Fern Canyon offers an easy 3.5 mi hike with epic Jurassic park scenery. It was the first hike that made me fall in love with the Humboldt wilderness. Cascading mini water falls on ferns hanging from soil walls, a small river to hike through and over giant fallen trees, its surely never short of adventure. Also lots of wildlife with Roosevelt Elk always visiting just outside the park on Gold bluff beach, varied thrushes, dippers, and more birds, as well as seemingly endless mushie species for your viewing pleasure. Just be prepared to bring extra socks or shoes as the river is always running!
