Crash Course

Hiking gives me a sense of connectedness and rejuvenation with myself and the environment I immerse myself in. Almost every hike you go on, whether that be in the mountains, seaside, desert, prairie, forest, you are going to witness something new. This certainly parallels with what place you go, how many times and how long you visit a trail or campsite.
Here is a crash course on how to fully enjoy your next hike. Its always good to prepare before you go on a hike even if its just a 5k. Staying hydrated is the number one issue I have seen keep people from enjoying their hike and instead wishing they had just stayed in bed all day. Pack light, trust me on this one. Bring fibrous snacks. Bring a compass, a field knife and a paper map if you can. Always map out your trail before you hike, nobody likes getting lost especially if you only brought enough for a certain amount of time. wear light but concealing clothes, including a hat and closed-toed shoes. It sucks getting star thistle in your leg or a burnt nose. And if you got binoculars, that's highly recommend for your personal enjoyment of seeing a raptor come down from the tree tops or boulder for its next meal. Lastly, always tell someone you trust where you are going and when to be expected to come back, its a fool-proof way of making sure nothing goes too awry. Best of luck on your adventures!
