Telegraph Peak

Note: with all the fires, this trail currently requires day and night permits.

Nestled in the Cucamonga Wilderness, Telegraph Peak gifts you the sight of vast trees, rich vegetation and rocky mountainsides. Mountain Ranges such as Mt. Baldy, San Jacinto and more can be seen from this peak, along with connecting trails to other peaks. Even wildlife frequents the trail, for example I came across a doe a few woodpeckers, and another yellow-headed bird of some sort that was too fast to ID... oh!  and a chipmunk on my most recent visit.

This is a great trail for intermediate elevation training. It is about 13.5 miles (5-8 hours hike) if you take Icehouse Canyon to Icehouse Saddle and beyond. Until you see a sign or two pointing you towards the direction to Telegraph peak. The trail itself shows full and diverse vegetative species and one often can see wildlife. At times the trail gets heavy foot traffic but after you pass the saddle it becomes less trafficked.

With a 2,759ft elevation gain (trailhead starts at 4,733ft). It is quite steep so anyone who is going this trail unprepared will likely have the accompaniment of altitude sickness. All warnings aside, this trail has amazing rocky vegetation, frequent enjoyable wildlife encounters leading to fulfillment in every switchback. Nothing quite lives up to the beauty and adventure of this trail.
